Another Great Auction 19th February
This Victorian porcelain pedestal cake stand, produced by William Brownfield and Sons of Staffordshire, features the Alexandra pattern. The vessel is constructed with a wide, shallow well and a flared pedestal base. The border is finished in a pink ground accented with molded, gilt-edged scrollwork and two integrated scroll handles. The central white well is decorated with a hand-painted floral wreath comprising roses and yellow blossoms intertwined with a blue ribbon. The pedestal base mirrors the pink ground and gilt highlights of the upper section, further embellished with stylized foliate motifs. The underside of the base displays a black transfer-printed garter mark surmounted by a crown, containing the text ALEXANDRA and W B. Additional markings include an impressed WB and small blue hand-painted symbols.
