This 38 inch stick barometer features a figured mahogany veneered case with decorative stringing inlay. The instrument is constructed with a bulbous cistern cover at the base and a central trunk housing the glass mercury tube. The rectangular upper section is topped with a pedimented roof and a brass urn-shaped finial. A hinged glass door protects the silvered metal register plate. The plate contains two distinct scales: a thermometer on the left with temperature markings including Freezing, Temperate, and Blood Heat, and a barometric scale on the right with weather descriptors ranging from Stormy to Very Dry. The dial includes a manual vernier slide for precise readings.
