Margaret Dovaston (1884-1955), A Tall Story. An oil on canvas painting depicting a historical genre scene set within a tavern or manor house interior. The composition features several figures in late 18th or early 19th-century dress, including a group of men in spirited conversation. Some figures are shown smoking pipes, while others are gathered around a small table featuring a catch of fish and wicker baskets. The work is signed M. Dovaston in the lower right corner. It is presented in a large, ornate rococo-style gilt-composition frame with elaborate floral and foliate moulding.
