Another Great Auction 26th February
This antique Shaanxi Chinese lacquer wood chest, measuring 24 inches wide, features hand-painted landscape and courtyard scenes and dates to circa 1850. The rectangular top surmounts two drawers and an arched apron, supported by solid side panels. The dark lacquer finish is embellished with polychrome figural scenes on the drawer fronts and a decorative foliate border with fruit and a butterfly on the lower apron. Each side panel displays a large, stylised red floral medallion within a rectangular border, while the reverse features a spray of red blossoms. The piece is fitted with circular brass or bronze drawer pulls and a central locking hasp.
