A corrugated metal backrest plate of the type used as a Ruckenstütze for a German machine gun tripod mount, such as the Lafette 34 or 42. The plate features a contoured, ribbed design with a central circular aperture and several integrated slots for strap attachment. The item is fitted with a set of leather and metal harness straps. Faint, stencilled white alphanumeric markings are visible on the exterior face, appearing to read I B 1. The construction consists of a pressed metal plate with riveted and slotted attachments for the associated leatherwork.
