An early 20th-century wall-mounted barometer and thermometer featuring a mahogany case with an architectural silhouette and decorative wood stringing. The large circular silvered barometer dial includes weather markers from Stormy to Very Dry and is marked H.W. SLY near the centre. Positioned on the vertical stem is a glass thermometer showing a Fahrenheit scale with qualitative markings such as Freezing and Blood Heat. A metal presentation plaque is mounted on the case, inscribed: PRESENTED TO MR. JOHN NUTTALL BY THE STAFF AT MESSRS. [unreadable] & SONS LTD. ON TERMINATING HIS CONNECTION WITH THE FIRM 21ST OCT. 1916 AFTER 25 YEARS SERVICE.
