Another Great Auction
Two hand-painted porcelain bird figurines produced by Goebel, West Germany. The group comprises a kingfisher and a wren, each naturalistically modelled and perched on a stylised branch base. The kingfisher is finished with blue and orange plumage, while the wren is rendered in mottled brown tones. The undersides of the bases are marked with blue underglaze Goebel W. Germany stamps and include original paper labels identifying the subjects in German, English, and French as Eisvogel/Kingfisher/Martin-pecheur and Zaunkonig/Wren/Roitelet. The pieces also display impressed model numbers, including 58.
